Wie’s prasselt, hämmert, schüttet
und an den Scheiben rüttelt;
die Tropfen fallen nieder,
schlagen ans Glas und wieder
steht lang ersehnter Regen,
auf Dächern und auf Wegen.
Der Marktplatz ist verlassen,
und über nassen Straßen
gehn Blitz und Donner nieder,
flüchtig, doch immer wieder,
versickern Regenmassen,
wo‘s die Kanäle fassen.
Ich stehe an den Scheiben,
beschau das nasse Treiben.
Verkürzt sind unsere Tage,
die Kälte wird bald Plage.
Wärme wird fortgeschwemmt,
nichts, was das Frieren dämmt.
